Tari Puspa Banksia - kecek and kendang

Tari Puspa Banksia is a new work with music by  @yande_kings  and choreography Putu Ayu Lestari, commissioned by Gamelan DanAnda for Gamelan DanAnda and  @LestariMelbourne  in 2025.

This version, with the midi sounds, and Yande's isolated parts is shared for educational purposes, so that others can learn the parts to this beautiful piece! The final version had changes in the number of repeats, and some tempo changes from the original, so videos have been adjusted to follow the recording.

Tari Puspa Banksia was premiered on the 14th of September 2025 at the Collingwood Town Hall, but the music was composed by Yande King's during his residency with Gamelan DanAnda in February and March 2025.

The piece was composed using the  @SoniccoutureOfficial  sample set for the colotomic structure, gangsas, reyong and soft hammers, and Yande performed the ugal, suling, kendang and kecek. The audio and midi data was all captured by John Cheong-Holdaway at the Gamelan DanAnda studio and at John's home. John didn't think to begin capturing video of the recording until after the beginning of the kendang wadon recording, which is why the beginning is missing.

The video of the premiere, performed by Gamelan DanAnda with Yande King's and Sanggar Lestari with Putu Ayu Lestari, was made by Kudda Productions. To hear the recording and see the dance properly, check out the premiere here: https://youtu.be/nb4PR-hVnkI

John Cheong-Holdaway was creative producer on this project, and this composite video was edited by him. If you live in Melbourne and are watching this video, you might enjoy being a part of our community orchestra!

This commission was supported by  @creativeaus .
