LaMama for Kids -support materials
My recent activity with Thornbury Primary School students as part of Regional Arts Victoria's 'Creative Workers in Schools' program. Sadly, due to lockdowns this project was interrupted before the main part of my intended activity, so the documentation here is just what the classroom teacher snapped on his phone! (with all proper privacy rights of the students shown, of course). Videos below wouldn't embed here, sorry.
BELOW: Bamboo rattles, also known as ANGKLUNG (a bit confusing) are super easy to integrate with the bronze percussion, and create a lovely change of sound pallette. Also they look great being shaken!
BELOW: Interlocking rhtyhms known as KOTEKAN, a unique part of Balinese music.
BELOW: Balinese scales are often limited to five notes, but the amazing sound of the intentionally detuned pairs of keys instantly creates a magical sound.
